About the RHS Choral Director:

Mr. Jimmy Robertson, affectionately known as “Mr. Rob”, is the eldest of five children from Longview, TX, in his thirteenth year of teaching and third year at Reedy High School. Prior to arriving at RHS, Robertson served seven years as director of choirs at West Brook High School in Beaumont, Texas. During his time there, choirs earned numerous UIL Sweepstakes and other festival awards. In fact, during the spring of 2014, his varsity mixed choir was selected to perform the hit song, “I  Wanna Know What Love Is” with the popular rock band “Foreigner.” His choirs also made special appearances on the Walt Disney World stage in 2014, 2016, and 2019.

    Mr. Robertson’s passion for choral music is infectious! 

Several of his  2,000+ former and current students are All-Region Members, Texas Music Scholars, State Solo and Ensemble Qualifiers, and or Texas All-State Choir Members. Historically,  students have graduated from Robertson’s choral program to pursue music education/  vocal performance at Yale, Oberlin Conservatory, Indiana State University, Stephen F. Austin, Arizona State University, and more.

   When not in the classroom, Mr. Robertson is a frequent guest UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest Adjudicator, and or conductor of an All-Region Ensemble throughout Texas. His professional memberships include Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, The Texas Music  Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Choral Directors Association, American Choral Directors  Association, Southwestern American Choral Directors Association, and Texas Music Adjudicators Association (TMAA.) 

  Robertson holds degrees from Longview High School; an Associate from Lon Morris College; Bachelor of Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. He completed coursework and will graduate in December 2021 with a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Texas Tech University (Wreck ‘em).
